Shoreline Farmers Market is a staple of the Shoreline community and is proud to be celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2021.
When COVID hit in early 2020, WA Farmers Markets remained open as an essential business and an safe space for community members to shop. The Shoreline community showed up to support our vendors and the farmers market. They patiently waited in line, practiced physically distancing, and thanked the farmers that grew their food.
The market is an excellent opportunity for you to promote your business while supporting your local community. As a small organization we rely on the support of community sponsors to fund our staff and support our programs. Your sponsorship will directly support the Shoreline Farmers Market and will ensure our continued success and ability to provide not only a vibrant community gathering space but a place to support the local economy and provide locally grown and healthy foods to your neighbors.
Your sponsorship will support our popular market programs:
Kids Programming- The Power of Produce (PoP) program served over 1,000 kids in 2019. PoP is a multifaceted program that gives $2 in market currency to youth that can be used to purchase fruits and vegetables at the market. The program is designed to encourage healthy food choices and teach kids the value of a monetary transaction. Additionally, kids can engage in educational activities that promote the ethos of PoP. In 2020 the PoP Program pivoted online. SFM created fun and education videos for kids to stay engaged with the farmers markets while staying home and staying safe.
Supplemental Nutrition Access Program (SNAP) Matching Program- In Washington State, 1 in 7 people rely on the SNAP program to supplement their food purchases and half of these beneficiaries are children. SNAP is essential to our communities and the SNAP Market Match Program makes shopping at a farmers market more accessible. The SNAP Market Match matches, dollar for dollar, all SNAP and EBT transactions made at participating farmers markets, meaning a $20 withdrawn from the account is matched with an additional $20 that can be used to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables only. Over $44,000 was spent at the SFM using Food Access programs including WIC.
Musical Performances- The live music offered at the Shoreline Farmers Market is one of the key elements that sets us apart from neighboring markets. SFM hosts 36 musical performances totaling over 81 hours of music to delight our customers. At SFM the musicians are given a stipend in the form of “market bucks” allowing them to shop at the market and support the market vendors. Music brings people together, reinforces the sense of community, and brightens the space allowing customers to settle in and enjoy the market longer. Music was prohibited during the 2020 season but will be allowed to return in 2021 (with safety restrictions).
